Astral projection: accounts, interpretations and research

Astral projection is a term used in esoteric traditions for experiences interpreted as leaving the body. An experience report and its proposed explanation are different things. An intense subjective event does not by itself establish movement outside the body.

Context and method

Dreams, transitions between sleep and wakefulness and unusual bodily experiences receive different interpretations. Personal accounts, traditional texts and scientific studies should be identified as different source types.

How to study and use it

When keeping a record, note when the experience occurred, whether you were falling asleep or waking, and what you actually perceived. Separate description from later interpretation. A journal helps compare episodes without filling gaps with expectations.

Important distinctions

Astral projection and lucid dreaming are not equivalent terms in every system. The lucid-dream guide explains the difference in focus. Personal records can organize questions without demonstrating a metaphysical explanation.
