Sigil meaning and how to create one

A sigil is a graphic sign used for identification or symbolic purposes in different magical traditions. A spirit’s seal in a grimoire and a personal symbol made from an intention belong to different contexts.

Context and method

Contemporary sigil methods may condense an intention into letters and rearrange them into a design. Other systems use number squares, alphabets or their own conventions. Identify the method before assigning meaning to a shape.

How to study and use it

Try reducing a sentence, drawing its remaining letters and comparing your result with the generator’s path. Record the original wording and chosen rule. Simplifying the image deliberately makes the construction easier to follow.

Important distinctions

There is no universal dictionary that decodes every sigil. For a historical seal, identify the edition and tradition; for a personal symbol, ask its maker. Similar shapes do not establish identical meanings or uses.
